One of the oldest clubs in Devon football, Dartmouth United were formed in 1908 and initially competed in the Torbay & District League, forerunner of the South Devon League.  In the following years United spent many seasons as distinguished members of the Plymouth & District League, whose Premier Championship, they won five times.

In the years immediately after World War II, Dartmouth enjoyed considerable success in the FA Challenge Cup, FA Amateur Cup, Devon Senior Cup and the Victory Cup competitions.  United reverted back to the South Devon League in the 68/69 season, winning the Championship twice and runners up in their first three seasons.

Since then United have experienced a few lean years, but did manage to win the Herald Cup, Belli Cup and in the 94/95 season finished as runners up in the South Devon Premier League, therefore winning automatic promotion to the Devon County League.  In that first season United finished a creditable 4th place.  The 96/97 season was an immensely good season for Dartmouth United’s history, when they won the Devon Premier Cup and finished runners up in both the League and the League Cup competitions, a truly great achievement.
